Parenting Support
Are you having problems and difficulties being a parent? Do you find as parents, you often do not agree on the same approach? Do you find that being a single parent is overwhelming?
Has your child become "difficult," irritable or angry, making effective, even civil, communication almost impossible?
Can you no longer enjoy the rewards of being a parent? Do you feel like you don't know what to do or where to turn to make the situation better?
Parenting can be exceptionally challenging as it involves the utilization of many skills and ongoing energy. Parents often feel as if they are the only ones in the world struggling with their children and varying behavioral issues. They also might worry that they are to blame. The truth is not all parenting styles work for all kids and sometimes it requires utilizing different tools. Many parents simply need to receive support and find new strategies to try with their children. Understanding variations in temperament can put a whole new spin on the parent/child interaction and make a noticeable difference for the whole family.
Adolescent Counseling
Are you and your teen having trouble relating and communicating? Do you find yourself concerned about their moodiness, irritability, anger or withdrawal? Have academics become an area of concern? Do you have concerns about their social life?
The years of adolescence are challenging and stressful on everyone involved. It is hard to know what normal teen behaviors are versus when there is need for intervention. With appropriate assessment, support and careful guidance, the transition can be a time of growth for the whole family. Addressing personal, social, academic and family issues is an area in which I focus with all teens to help them gain confidence, direction, personal responsibility, self understanding and motivation to prepare themselves for life’s many challenges and their future as young adults.
